Short-run digital printing service

If your requirements are for shorter runs but full-colour is still important then you need a digital printing service. Utilising Xerox DocuTech digital printing technology means that printed materials are delivered faster and less expensively than conventional print, be it from hard copy or disk.

No film, No plates, No make-ready. Print on demand is 100% digital and designed to print both large and small quantities cost effectively with fast turnaround times.

Small Digital Print Runs

Small print run capability means you only request what you need, when you need it. This ensures that your printed materials are always current. There’ll be no waste through obsolescence.

Digital Archiving

Your materials can be archived digitally. Then, when you need more printed or should you need to make changes, it’s simply a case of copying the job back to the DocuTech, making the changes, and printing immediately.

While no two digital printing jobs are ever the same, many fall into similar categories. Below are some of the document types many digital printers specialise in, which may describe your project.

Document Types

Reports and Research Documentation

Printing on demand and short print runs are the ideal way to make sure your report and research document contain all your latest information.

Proposals

Proposals need to have a clear quality edge to them but are usually produced to tight deadlines. Using our digital printers we can achieve fast turnaround times without compromising quality. Combined with the highest quality papers or with pre-printed colour blanks, the result is a top quality document.

Conference Materials

Having the opportunity to print conference materials at the last moment gives you more time to gather the contents together and include last-minute papers and conference delegates to them.

We can produce your materials quickly and cost-effectively using pre-printed covers, tab dividers or colour sheets to divide the different sessions, then finish it in your chosen way. We are also able to design and print delegate badges from pre-printed blanks.

Newsletters

Newsletters are an effective way in which to communicate throughout an organisation. Here the presentation is just as important as the content.

Materials for a newsletter often originate from a number of sources and in a variety of formats. We can merge these together on the printer, creating a consistent appearance and reducing lead time. Newsletters can be produced as A4 stitched or A3 folded. Alternatively, the digital operator can automatically impose and signaturise your document for booklet finishing.

Periodically reissued newsletters can be produced with pre-printed mastheads or other sections in colour and overprinted in black on the Digital Press.

Software Manuals

Print on demand and digital technology is ideally suited to the production of software manuals as you need print only the quantity which meets current demand. This means that in the ever-changing world of computer software you can make changes as they happen and your manuals keep step with software development.

Plus, digital production at 600 dpi gives your documents a sharper print quality, making screenshots and diagrams clearer.

Booklets

Training Materials

In today’s environment of innovation and technological change it’s more important than ever to update training materials, and to print only the quantities that meet current demands.
Producing manuals can sometimes be daunting because of continuous updates and changes that may occur during the life of the document.

In addition, your manuals may be made up from a combination of materials: postscript files, pages of hard copy, photos, spreadsheets, line drawings and more. We can convert your postscript files and incorporate hard copy elements, photos and so on with ease. Then, we can merge logos into the document and add page numbers.

We can set up your document and provide you with a complete proof copy for checking before the print run. We can then archive the job to digital storage so that you can call off more as needed, or update as necessary. Pre-printed colour blanks give your material even more impact: we can overprint straight onto them, giving the look of a colour job.

Short Book Runs

Using digital technology to produce A5 and A4 Books we print only the quantities you require for your short term needs, reducing storage costs and eliminating the cost of obsolescence.

To achieve the fastest turn around times we can store your books on our archive system for instant recall. Any updates can quickly be made before reprinting, making sure you always have the current edition in stock.

Bleeds explained

Basically, a bleed is artwork that goes over the edge of the printed sheet.

If your design needs to have a bleed then it’s important to allow 3mm overlap (see image A below). As the letterhead will be printed on oversize material (SRA4), this gives the guillotine operator a chance to cut into the artwork and produce a good finished letterhead. (see image B below).

Why do we need a bleed?

If the artwork ended at the edge of the sheet and the guillotine cut was only 0.5mm out, then we could end up with an unsightly thin white strip down one edge of the sheet, which is not ideal.

Also, if there is a large stack of paper on the press, with the best will in the world there will be the odd sheet that doesn’t get fed through the press 100% accurately so if a bleed hasn’t been put in place this could cause issues.

Extending the artwork over the edge of the sheet allows for a little leeway when it comes to the time for trimming.

If you’ve set your workspace for A4 and intend to use bleeds then, depending on what software package you are using you may need to set the workspace to oversize A4 (SRA4), which measures 225mm x 320mm.
