Checklist

Remember, if designing for print, set your workspace to 300dpi and at actual size to be used, or larger. Many people use higher resolutions, 600dpi for instance, but this is not necessary for general print purposes, and will not improve the final print quality.

If designing just for the web, then a 72dpi workspace is fine. However, it's always worth designing in a high resolution. That way, you'll always have a top-quality file available, should you need it.

Another thing to consider - if designing for print, then make sure 'Mode' is set for CMYK.

Insert > Mode > CMYK

Only use RGB mode if designing for the web, or if your project is being digitally produced.

Personalisation and targeting are key in business card printing - giving the customer enough of a flavour of what your company is all about without overloading their senses.

But sometimes you don't know what you want until you see it.

At Castle Print and Design we understand this - and that's why we're offering free Photoshop tutorials to our customers.

Just click on the links shown to the left, and you'll get a guide to creating some striking effects that we think might come in useful to your business.

All of the tutorials are flexible enough for you to personalise the designs to fit the exact look you need for your perfect letterhead, brochure, flyer, printed envelope, compliment slip, business card or even your website.

Not only does this mean your printing needs will be individual - it will also give you a masterclass in this industry standard software.

Every major media, design and artwork company uses Photoshop, so being familiar with how to work it can only help your business.

Don't be afraid to experiment - sometimes strokes of genius can come from a misplaced click of the mouse.

Once you've decided what looks right for your business card, or you have settled on a rough idea, get in touch and we'll discuss how to apply it to the stationary that will help transform your business.
